STRATEGIC ISSUES IN ADMINISTRATION
SYLLABUS AIM
The aim of this unit is to consider administration in its wider business and environmental context. It introduces students to some of the key concepts of higher-level business discourse, and develops student awareness of the contemporary issues that are essential to successful professional development.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
Evaluate the impact of a dynamic external environment on an organisation’s processes and practices
Discuss the relationship between “strategic thinking’ and administrative problems and decisions, and apply diagnostic tools appropriately in administrative contexts
Critically analyse an organisation’s strategic position and plan improvements, in relation to market and customers.
Examine a range of generic and organisational change drivers and develop a convincing argument for change in a given context

ASSESSMENT
The unit will be assessed by a 3 hour closed book examination. The paper will comprise of a choice of 4 questions from 8 designed to assess the depth and breadth of candidates’ knowledge of how strategic administrative management is managed throughout the organisation. The paper will be divided intro four sections and candidates will be required to answer one question from each section.

Students will be expected to use a set text, accompanying the Institute’s Study Guide Strategic Issues in Administration and supporting references for this unit.
