English Language Course
by Callan Method
Learn English in a quarter of time!
Launched in 1960, the Callan Method is infallible. It makes the students talk for the whole duration of the class through a quick-fire question and answer session intended to get the student thinking in English as
opposed to their own native language. The lesson consists of both vocabulary and grammar but taught through a conversation-type system.
The method's effectiveness is proven by the high pass rate in the Cambridge First Certificate exams (about 90%), taking a quarter of the time spent by other schools which use traditional methods. According to the University of Cambridge, a complete beginner student needs four academic years to reach the level of First Certificate in English (FCE) learning with traditional methods. The Callan Method leads the student to the same level in only 1 year!
Speak Fluently
The Callan Method teaches the student to speak fluently. That's because during the classes the teachers speak very quickly (around 240 words per minute) so the students get accustomed to listening to the natural speed of a native English person (which is around 180 words per minute). Straight away from the absolute beginner level the student is forced to listen to a rapid speed of English and to answer questions promptlyin order to get them used to the new language as soon as possible, thus making the most of classroom time and increasing their confidence to speak immediately. The student is forced not to translate or 'stop and think' while they speak. They are taught to speak instinctively and naturally as they do in their own mother tongue.
It is not just conversation...
Although the method seems to be simple, it in fact took 15 years to be developed through extensive research and pratical experiences. This was necessary to make simple a learning technique which must be thorough and complete. The method does not teach only conversation as some people wrongly believe. All the important grammar points and the necessary writing skills are also included in order to help the student reach the Cambridge First Certificate Level (upper intermediate). It has been proven that this quick-fire question and answer method of teaching makes the student understand and be able to use the English language easily, naturally, and most importantly very quickly.
